Report on visit made on August 14th, 2009.
A contribution of Twenty Thousand Dollars ($20,000.00) was handed over to the Best Care Foundation to assist with its Poultry Project from the Royal Lodge # 207. Ms. Coralee Richards who was acting for Ms. Beckford received the cheques on behalf of the foundation.
The Poultry Project is the best I have seen since my association with the project.
Sanitation of the coop is very good. The birds are in good health. All waterier were working for the first time and all feeding pan had adequate feed.
Stocking was done in July with the usual 500 birds. There has been no mortality to date. Birds conformed to the usual laying pattern, recording 25% in the first week 60% in the second week, 80% in the third week and 90% in the fifth week. The home continues to utilize 17 ½ dozen eggs per week. All remaining eggs are marketed. Market is available.
It is interesting to note that the previous batch of birds continued to produce above average for an extended four (4) months period, recording a 60% laying rate between the 12th and 15th month period. This performance is commendable and is the result of the excellent performance of the new workers.
